Mr-Glass Window Installation: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Mr-Glass-compatible window installation parts across Fort Worth, with most complete window installations running $450 to $1,850 installed depending on size, glass package, and frame condition. Most jobs are completed same week, not same day, because proper flashing and sealant cure time matters in Texas heat. If you’ve got a Mr-Glass window that’s fogged between panes, refusing to latch, or letting a draft through the sill, that’s usually how owners discover the installation – not the glass itself – has started to fail. The window unit may be fine. The way it was set into the opening is what gave up.
At Juniper Windows Fort Worth, we’re an independent installer, not a Mr-Glass dealer. That means we match your existing Mr-Glass window to the right installation parts without pushing a brand switch. We carry Mr-Glass-compatible hardware and sealant kits on our trucks, and we also work with PGT, CGI, and CWS product lines when a full replacement makes more sense than a repair.
Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To
Mr-Glass windows sold in the DFW market generally fall into three series: single-hung aluminum, horizontal sliders, and fixed picture units. Each uses different installation components. The single-hung series typically rides on spiral balances with corner keys that snap into the frame jamb. Sliders use roller assemblies seated in a bottom track that collects dust and grit faster in Fort Worth than almost anywhere else we work, thanks to the clay-heavy soil that gets kicked up by wind.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha: Mr-Glass changed its corner key profile around 2016. If your window was installed before that, an aftermarket corner key from a big-box store won’t seat correctly, and the sash will bind within a year. We stock both profiles on the truck. To identify your window, look for a laser-etched code on the spacer bar between the panes or a white label on the top edge of the sash when you tilt it out. The code starts with “MG” followed by four or five digits. Snap a photo of it before you call us, it saves a trip.
For OEM versus aftermarket: Mr-Glass OEM installation parts are fine but priced at a premium that doesn’t always match performance. The aftermarket spiral balances we use in Fort Worth are tested to 10,000 open-close cycles and hold tension longer in our summer heat than the original equipment, which tends to lose spring force after five or six years of 100-degree attic-side heat soaking through the frame.
Signs Your Mr-Glass Window Installation Is Failing
- Fog between the panes. The glass seal has failed, which means moisture is getting in past the edge seal. The window wasn’t necessarily installed wrong, but the installation points – glazing tape, setting blocks – now need to come out for a glass pack replacement. In Fort Worth humidity, this spreads quickly once it starts.
- Sash drops when you let go. The spiral balance has lost tension or the pivot shoe cracked. This is the most common Mr-Glass single-hung failure we see, and it usually happens when the window gets operated daily in a kitchen or bathroom.
- You feel a draft at the sill. The sill angle or backer rod under the frame has compressed or broken down. This is often an installation flaw from day one that took a few years to show. Caulking over it from outside won’t fix it, the air is moving under the frame, not around it.
- Lock or latch won’t engage. The keeper on the frame and the latch on the sash have drifted out of alignment, usually because the frame has settled or shifted. Fort Worth’s clay soil expands and contracts with rain and drought cycles, and window frames move with it. That’s not a hypothetical, we see it on homes in Arlington Heights and the Near Southside every year.
- Condensation inside the track or on the sill. Weep holes are clogged or were never cleared after installation. Water pools instead of draining, and over time it rots wood sills or corrodes aluminum frames. This one looks minor and costs real money if ignored.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s the honest pricing picture for Mr-Glass window installation work in Fort Worth:
- Spiral balance replacement (per window): $85 to $150 installed, parts and labor included.
- Corner key and pivot shoe replacement: $65 to $110 per window, depending on series and whether we’re doing both sides.
- Roller assembly replacement for sliders: $95 to $175 per window.
- Full glass pack replacement (insulated unit): $225 to $550 per window, depending on glass size, Low-E coating, and whether it’s impact-rated.
- Complete window installation (new Mr-Glass window, full tear-out and reinstall): $450 to $1,850 per opening, driven by size, frame condition, and whether interior trim work is needed.
Every job gets a written price before any work starts. No estimate that shifts once the window is out. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers parts and labor on our installation for a full year, in writing. If a balance we replaced fails in month seven, we come back and fix it, no charge, no argument.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely handle a few things: cleaning the tracks, checking weep holes for clogs, and snapping photos of the frame labels so we can identify the exact series. That photos step alone saves most customers a diagnostic trip.
What you shouldn’t attempt is pulling a sash with a tensioned spiral balance. The balance is under spring load, and when it releases wrong, it takes fingers with it. We’ve been called to homes in Fort Worth where a DIY balance swap turned a $100 repair into a broken window, a torn window screen, and a trip to urgent care. The math on that never works. If the window has a tension-loaded balance, leave it to someone who handles them weekly. Call (682) 354-9300 and we’ll get a written quote to you before any work starts. Get the numbers right up front, and the install takes care of itself.
FAQs
Spiral balances and pivot shoes on Mr-Glass single-hung windows typically last 7 to 10 years in Fort Worth before losing tension. That number drops to 5 to 7 years if the window faces full afternoon sun without shade. Roller assemblies on sliders usually run 8 to 12 years, but track cleanliness makes a big difference. If your windows are from before 2016, you’re likely approaching or past replacement age on the original hardware. Call (682) 354-9300 and we’ll tell you straight what needs replacing and what still has life in it.
Yes, in most cases the hardware and installation components can be replaced without touching the glass or the frame. Balances, rollers, corner keys, and pivot shoes are all serviceable parts. The window only needs full replacement when the frame itself is warped, the glass seal has failed, or water damage has compromised the opening. We’ll always price the repair first and show you the difference before recommending a full swap.
Most single-window hardware repairs take 45 minutes to 2 hours once we’re on site. A full window replacement runs 3 to 5 hours per opening, including tear-out, flashing, installation, and trim. We don’t rush sealant cure time in Fort Worth heat, so the window may need a day before you operate it normally. Book through the Relay Standard and you’ll get a live arrival time and before-and-after photos on every job.
We stock the most common Mr-Glass installation parts on our trucks: spiral balances in standard lengths, both corner key profiles, pivot shoes, roller assemblies, and glazing tape. If your window needs something outside our inventory, most parts arrive in 3 to 5 business days. We’ll confirm stock before we schedule so you’re never sitting with a window taped shut waiting on a part. Call (682) 354-9300 for a free estimate and a straight answer on your window.
