CWS Window Installation: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide
We stock and install CWS-compatible window units across Fort Worth, with most full-frame or retrofit installations running between $850 and $2,400 per window depending on size, glass package, and whether the existing frame is salvageable. Most CWS owners call us when a sash won’t stay up, a frame corner has started separating after a Texas hail season, or condensation has fogged the glass permanently. You’ll get a written price before we touch anything, and the replacement usually goes in the same visit once we confirm the measurements.
Here’s the reality we see on CWS windows in Tarrant County: the frames are generally solid, but the hardware and weatherstripping take a beating from our summer heat cycles. A window that worked fine in March can bind by August because the vinyl has thermally expanded and the balance system is fighting it. We carry common CWS replacement hardware on the truck, and we can order full replacement sashes or complete units when the frame itself is compromised.
Juniper Windows Fort Worth is an independent service provider, not affiliated with CWS. Sean Mackey and our crew have pulled CWS windows out of houses from Fairmount to Saginaw, so we know what these units do after ten or fifteen North Texas summers.
Which CWS Models This Applies To
CWS has produced several vinyl window lines over the years, and most Fort Worth homes we service fall into two camps: the older 2000s-era single-hung and slider units, and the newer 70 Series and 80 Series double-hung models. The part you need depends on which one you have, and the easiest way to identify it is the etched or printed code on the spacer bar between the glass panes. That code tells us the manufacturing date, glass package, and series, and it’s the first thing we check when you send a photo.
The compatibility gotcha with CWS specifically: the older single-hung balance systems used a 5/8-inch coil balance that is no longer in production. We source a direct-fit aftermarket equivalent for those, but it is not an OEM part, and we’ll tell you that before installing it. For the 70 and 80 Series, OEM hardware is still available from CWS distributors, and we generally recommend OEM for the tilt-latch and pivot bar assemblies because the tolerances are tight enough that aftermarket parts bind within a year.
Glass packages are the other variable. CWS offered standard annealed, tempered, and laminated options depending on the original builder spec. If you’re in an area like Benbrook or Lake Worth where the original build called for laminated glass on street-facing windows, the replacement pane has to match or the structural rating changes. We measure the glass thickness on site rather than trusting the label, because we have seen mismatched replacement panes cause seal failure within two seasons.
Signs Your CWS Window Installation Is Failing
- The sash drops when you let go, or won’t stay in the raised position. The coil balance inside the frame has lost tension or snapped. On Fort Worth homes with west-facing windows, the constant afternoon heat accelerates the spring fatigue, and we usually see this on the sun side of the house first.
- The window is hard to open or close, especially after rain. Vinyl frames expand and contract with temperature, and worn weatherstripping plus a misaligned sash creates drag. If you hear a grinding sound, the pivot bar may be scraping the track, which wears the shoe and eventually the balance.
- Condensation that never goes away, or sits between the panes. A failed seal means the desiccant inside the spacer bar is saturated. This is not a cleaning problem. The insulated glass unit needs replacement, and in Fort Worth’s humidity swings, a failed seal will keep pulling moisture until the glass etches permanently.
- The corner of the frame is visibly pulling apart or cracked. This happens more often on CWS windows from the 2000s where the corner welds were heat-fused but the vinyl formula got brittle with age. A cracked corner compromises the frame’s ability to hold the sash square, and patch repairs don’t hold in DFW temperature swings.
- Drafts or visible daylight around the sash perimeter. The compression weatherstripping has flattened, or the sash has warped enough to break the seal line. You can check this with a dollar bill closed in the window; if it slides out freely, the air seal is gone and your cooling bill in July is paying for it.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For CWS window installation in Fort Worth, here are the price ranges we write on estimates every week:
- Balance or pivot hardware replacement (per sash): $95 – $185 installed
- Weatherstripping replacement (per window): $75 – $160 installed
- Insulated glass unit replacement (per window): $320 – $680 installed
- Full sash replacement (per window): $420 – $800 installed
- Complete window swap, retrofit (per opening): $850 – $1,700 installed
- Complete window swap, full-frame (per opening): $1,300 – $2,400 installed
What drives the range: window size, glass package (tempered or laminated costs more), whether we can reuse the existing frame, and accessibility. A second-story window over a flower bed in Ridglea costs more than a ground-level window with clear ladder access in Wedgwood. Every price includes parts, labor, haul-off of the old unit, and our workmanship warranty. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the install for a full year, parts and labor, in writing.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely diagnose a lot without opening a tool bag. Check the spacer bar code, note whether the sash drops or binds, and inspect the frame corners for cracks. That information helps us bring the right part on the first trip. What you should not do is try to replace a coil balance yourself. Those springs are under enough tension to break fingers or throw the tool across the room if they release wrong, and the aftermarket tensioning tools are not one-size-fits-all. We have had Fort Worth homeowners call us mid-DIY with a half-disassembled sash and a balance assembly in pieces, and the final repair costs more than calling us first would have.
For glass replacement, the risk is getting the wrong thickness and finding out when the window no longer locks or the sash won’t seat. If you have a failed seal or a cracked pane, call (682) 354-9300 and send us a photo of the spacer code. We will tell you the price before we schedule.
FAQs
Plan on 15 to 20 years for the frame and 10 to 15 years for the insulated glass seal in Fort Worth’s climate. The heat and humidity swings are harder on window seals than anything they saw at the factory test bench. West-facing windows fail first.
Some hardware can. A tilt latch or pivot bar is a straightforward repair. A failed glass seal cannot be repaired; the insulated glass unit has to be replaced or the fog returns. A cracked frame corner is also a replacement situation, not a patch job.
A hardware replacement is 30 to 60 minutes per sash. A full window swap takes 2 to 4 hours per opening, including old-unit removal, flashing, and interior trim. We give you a written timeframe with the price, so the schedule doesn’t shift at the door.
We stock common CWS replacement hardware on the truck including coil balances, tilt latches, and pivot bars. Full sashes and insulated glass units are ordered to spec and typically arrive within one to two weeks. If it’s a same-week fix, we’ll tell you that before you book.
Get the numbers right up front, and the install takes care of itself.
